Prof. Dr-Ing. Dr. h.c. Peter Lockemann (Chairman)

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Peter Lockemann was born in 1935. He received his diploma and doctoral degree in Munich and subsequently spent seven years at the California Institute of Technology. After that, he briefly worked for the German National Research Center for Information Technology (GMD) in Bonn. From 1972 to 2004 he was full professor ‘in ordinary‘ for Information Technology at the University of Karlsruhe. He is now a professor emeritus, heading his own research group. From 1985 until 2005 he was also one of the executive officers of the Research Center for Information Technologies (FZI) at the University of Karlsruhe, and is still directing a research group there. He has been teaching repeatedly at various universities in the USA as a visiting professor and worked as an advisor for both private businesses and governmental departments. For many years he regularly visited the Silicon Valley and the laboratories of IT companies there. In 2003 he was given an honorary doctorate by the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt.
His current work focuses on the area of distributed and collaborative systems for data-intensive computer applications. These applications include manufacturing integration, digital libraries, electronic commerce, vehicle telematics and environmental information systems.
He has written 6 textbooks and roughly 140 papers and is the co-editor of several conference volumes and anthologies. An additional 450 papers have been published by participants of his research groups. He has implemented numerous research projects funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation), the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the European Union, as well as numerous joint research projects in the private sector.
He is still actively involved in the economic politics of the Karlsruhe Technology Region as well as in technology transfer in medium-sized companies. He is one of the founders of the Research Center for Information Technologies (FZI) in Karlsruhe and one of the initiators of the Karlsruhe Informatik-Kooperation (Karlsruhe Information Technology Co-operation). He was a member of the Committee for Technology-Oriented Businesses of the Karlsruhe Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), curator of a Fraunhofer Institute, and he was and is a member of supervisory and advisory boards of several medium-sized companies. In 2005 he received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Prof. Dr. Lutz Heuser

Prof. Dr. Lutz Heuser is one of the most notable IT experts in Germany today. He began his professional career as managing director of the European Research Organization at the Digital Equipment Corporation and then subsequently held the same position at the SAP AG for 11 more years. Today Prof. Heuser is the speaker of the executive board of AGT Germany and CTO of AGT International, a company focussing on security and safety of critical assets and urban management.
His dedicated commitment and his role as keynote speaker at numerous prestigious conferences and symposia around the world have earned Prof. Heuser a reputation on both a national as well as an international level, reflecting his tremendous knowledge, experience and ability. He is co-founder of the most important flagship projects which emerged from the current high tech strategy of the federal government, and a close consultant to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the Federal Ministry of the Interior. He is also a member of several renowned and distinguished institutions in the field of information technology, and therefore deeply involved in both current and future developments of the IT industry and the academic world.

Prof. Heuser has written numerous scientific papers and books. His publications have been repeatedly advertised in radio, television and printed media. His latest book "Heinz' Life - Kleine Geschichte vom Kommen und Gehen des Computers" was published by Carl Hanser Verlag in 2010.
Prof. Dr. Ralf Steinmetz

For more than nine years Prof. Ralf Steinmetz has worked in the field of industrial research, where his activities included the development of distributed multimedia systems and distributed multimedia applications. Since 1996 he has been Head of the Multimedia Communications lab at the Darmstadt University of Technology.
From 1997 to 2001 he was director of the Fraunhofer (formerly GMD) Integrated Publication and Information Systems Institute IPSI in Darmstadt. In 1999 he founded the Hessian Telemedia Technology Competence Center (httc e.V.).
His research and teaching focus on multimedia communications, with a particular emphasis on the vision of true "seamless multimedia communications". Author of over 300 refereed papers, he was appointed Governor of the ICCC in 1999. He was elected IEEE Fellow in the same year, as well as ACM Fellow in 2002, and was thus the first German to be awarded both these titles.
Since 2005 he has been a member of the technology advisory board of the Hessen Agentur as well as the advisor for information and communications technology of the Hessian government.
